Anybody got an old style scissor hood prop laying around? Had my air cond changed this summer and the tech was fresh out of school. Air works better than it ever has but he had no clue as to close the hood. Needless to say the prop is toast. Dont wanna convert . Just like the old style prop. 1985 z85. Ac fix was free so the kid could get some experience....Taught him a lesson in common sense.. He will do well as a tech, just needs some real world experience. Thanks for sale???

Easily. The '84/'85 folding style prop rod is quite fragile when faced with ignorance. I'm ashamed to say I ruined mine the first day of my '84 ownership:o. To close the hood, you must lift the hood a few inches to disengage the pivot-lock, then pull the joint toward the rear of the car before lowering the hood. If you just force it down, it bends the whole works and twists it out of shape. I spent a couple hours on the anvil with a hammer trying to get it's geometry back to plumb. The designer never allowed for a lapse in thinking while closing the hood.

The first time it happened the I did the same thing. this time its a pretzel.
Was in a local salvage yard last week. Owner showed me to an 84 that had recently arrived, a sad sight but the hood prop may be salvageable. If you can't find one anywhere else I can check it out for you. PM if interested.
