Well it took a while but I finally got to the bottom of it. For those of you that have seen these C4 Under Hood Insulators in the Corvette Central or Ecklers catalog and considered purchasing one beware. The catalogs say they will fit 85-96 C4's but they will not. I purchased one for my '89 and after painting the logo on it found it would not fit. Numerous calls back and forth between myself and Corvettes of Houston, where I purchased it turned up the following. The hood on C4's that were factory equiped with an LT1 or LT4 have a slight variation in the left side support pillar. This variation is absent on C4's with L98 engines (85-90) and it is because of the absence of the variation that the hood insulator will not fit. Corvettes of Houston will not give me my money back on the item, so I have decided to sell it for $120 (mat plus 12 mounting supports).
HAve heard they are a bunch of punks and this proves it. Call them back and tell them that when they advertise it'll fit the year groups that with out a disclaimer about the LT1/LT4 problem they are not being truthful in their advertising which is a crime and they WILL be reported to the authorities unless you get your money back, period! :smash: :smash: :smash: :yesnod:
Is it because you had it painted? That's the only reason why I would think they wouldn't have to take it back. If not I would report them to the BBB and 9 times out of 10 if they are members and you get them involved they will make things right.
How well is it made? I was thinking of putting one on my 85. I would take yours but I only have about half the money that you what that is available for non bills purchases. Sucks being a college student.
They didn't actually say why they would not give my money back. However, they did say they would give me store credit. I am assuming that it is because I painted it that they will not give me back my money. Still, it was advertised as an 85-96 fits all before I painted it. The lesson learned here is to purchase from Ecklers, Corvette Central, Mid-America etc. I know any of these guys would have taken it back, no questions asked.
Good advice to take it to the BBB. Just don't mention the painted logo. Clain false advertising in their catalog and file the case with BBB. What's to loose. Good luck.
I don't really want to do that because, in my opinion, that is a bit deceptive, I would only be telling a half truth. The fact is that every one that is selling these mats are selling them based on the information they have gotten from GM, even if the info is wrong. The differenses between an L98 hood and a LT1 hood are so slight that even the people that got them don't recognize the difference even after I point it out. I bare some of the responciblity because I didn't thoroughly check the item for fit before I modified it. I can't expect the manufactorer to give me my money back on an Item they didn't sell, eg they sold a mat without a logo painted on it. Corvettes of Houston did say that they would give me store credit, I do not think this is unreasonable, they are sharing part of the responcibility.
