My lungs are partially collapsed from the procedure (they think) or possibly from the "I wish I would just die" virus I had the week and a half before the surgery. So Saturday and Sunday is deep breathing exercises and then another chest x-ray to see how things are going.
When they do this "minimally invasive" surgery they stick this huge needle in your belly button and inflate your intestines till you look like a woman who's 10 months pregnant. When they do that it can shove your guts all over and push things up into your lungs that aren't normally there. It also shuts down your digestive tract for a few days, but my appetite came back on Thursday which is about normal. All the excess gas still makes its way out the usual way
Funny the things you learn about that you never wanted to know.
Most of it was gone in the first day - it's that last 10% or so that takes a while. Surprisingly, the Vette is easier to get in and out of than I thought it would be.
Wow that sounds like a fun time makes me uneasy just thinking about it . Glad your recovery is going well and hope your back to 100% soon.
No kidding! I'm really glad I was out like a light for the whole thing, but at least I understand better why my belly hurt like it did for the first 5 days or so.
Thanks for all the good wishes guys, I'm doing my best to get back to normal!
What was you initial medical issue?
One thing I have learned in the past 6 years of medical issues, (colon cancer, total hip replacement going on the 3rd time in 2 years, resultant deep tissue infections),is that you, or someone near you, must act as your advocate or the medical community will **** you up. Not intentionally, just the nature of the system.
Best of luck.
Ps.
Due to the hip I haven't ben able to drive the vett for the past 6 months. Normally this is the time of year we go to the coast and drive 6 to 7 hundred miles up and down the PCH, I hope to be back to normal by this Thanksgiving.

Good luck to you man. Hope things are coming along well. I work for a big hospital here in Michigan and have recently been a patient there. Be VERY involved in your care as the system is not perfect.
Thanks guys! The original issue was my appendix decided it was time to move out on its own - hate it when the kids do that!
Today has been much better. I'm still getting winded easily, but at least now I can take a deep breath - and hold it. Every day seems to be an improvement, so I'm happy. They wanted me more active so I did afew things today, but now I'm ready for a shower and a nap.
