Steering column
My steering column is loose. When you grab the wheel and shake it has about an 1/8" of play. It's not loose where it bolts to the dash. It's inside from the pivot joint to the wheel. The tech at the chevy place said it's common but, you need to take the column apart to get to a nut that lives inside the column. Nut comes loose. Got to remove the air bag, turn signal etc.
Has anyone else expericienced this and fixed it. They want about $80.00 labor to do it.
Tell the 'tech' he's got a 'nut loose'.
The nut doesn't loosen up.
Either the pivot pin is worn or the steering knuckle pin slot is.
This happens because some people like to use the steering wheel as support to get in or out of the car.
In either case, the only fix it to remove the steering column and either replace the pin or sleeve the slot to make the pin fit tight.
I'm sure 'slot' is not the right word, but my mind is drawing a blank right now.

Is it possible?
Sure..
Likely?
Probably not.
If all the 'tech' said to the OP was he has 'loose nuts', then he wasn't giving him half of the story.
And generally worn pivot pin slots are the culprit.
My 84 steering wheel flopped around a lot before I took it apart to fix it.
I wish I just had 'loose nuts'. That would have been great.
But I probably had the tightest nuts on the block, but my 'slot's were much to be desired...
Ok.. somehow that didn't come out right..

anyway....
It took me a while to fix the problem.... And then I sold the car..
