I searched old posts re: painting the console/radio trim. I have stripped, sanded, and primed .....and painted flat black.....restripped, resanded, reprimed.... and repainted semi-gloss black. Nothing comes close to the 'color' (sheen) of the airvents which look like the original rubber paint.
Someone suggested 'bumper black paint' in an old post but I haven't come across this paint anywhere to try it.
Any suggestions? Would clear coat over the flat black help? I am getting tired of looking at the hole where my console used to be!!! HELP!!!
Your are an incredible source of information for obscure stuff. Where do you find all these products and references you keep coming up with.
I am in the process of starting up a small company to handle specialty products for corvettte and other discriminating auto owners and you seem to have researched a lot of unique products. Is all your info from your restoration efforts?

I see the wise man of the mountain every morning... :yesnod:... Or I have no life...its one of those
Is the wise man available for consultation? I am sure that it is not the no life thing. At any rate, good job with the answers. If your wise man would care to share his list of sources for these kinds of items, could you have him email me and maybe we could discuss further off line.
Go to an upholstry shop and see if they have SEM Color Coat Flexable Coating in Landau Black. It's by far the closest I have found for getting the right finish to match the interior black.
After reading the detailed instruction in the TECH section, I decided to just go buy the upper & lower plates. The lower is about $250 & the upper is about $35
Lar's SEM paint numbers are no longer valid. Buy the SEM black bumper/trim paint. Make sure you use the plastic prep beforehand. I've painted mine and the color is correct. Let me know if you need the part number, I'm not at home right now...

I found a SEM distributor near my house and I'm going to have him order the 'flexible coating in Landau Black' plus the plastic prep. Fortunately when I spoke to the guy he didn't need the part numbers.... Thanks for the info.
Sorry, I guess I should have posed teh part number for the Landau Black. If it's not to late, the part number is 15013 on my can.
JD,
I think the paint LasagnaBoy is looking for is something to match his black interior. The SEM paint I mentioned is a perfect match and made for interior trim! If anybody wants to see how I detailed my dash in black & yellow to match the exterior I'd be happy to send you some pics to post!
