Something to consider though is your front tire size. That is, if you are running say 255/45/17 up front (as some later C4s do) then a 275/40/17 out back will mean that your rear tires will be over 1/3'' shorter (total diameter) than your fronts... And that may be noticeable. So if you go with 275s out back you may want to go to 245/45s up front (those two sizes are a perfect match height-wise). If, OTOH, you are already running 275s up front then nevermind... You're good.
Just be sure to do the math & keep f/r correctly proportioned & you'll be good!
Thanks Jon I was thinking about that difference between 40 & 45's but how would the narrower width cause the tire to lose height it shouldn't matter should it? If it calls for 45's up front and 40's in the back it should not make any difference on the width should it?
I asked in another thread but what rim size is the minimum to mount 275's on. In other words do I need to get new fronts to run 275's all around?

the '45' in 245/45/17 is the sidewall height (aspect ratio) which means that it is 45% of the width (245) of the tire. Therefore a 245/45 will be a bit shorter than a 255/45. IOW it's relative to the width.
