I Need to replace my 1990 corvette transmission. It won't shift into 2nd. I have a couple of questions. Would it be easier and cheeper to rebuild? Or should I just buy one from a parts car corvette? If I was to buy it from a parts car what years could I pull the transmission? Could I put a 87 in a 90? If none of these work where could I buy the transmission? Lastly, the corvette has a 700r4 transmission could I just use any 700r4 transmission or do I have to get a transmission designed specifically designed for corvette? would really like some help on this. Thank you. Sorry about the confusing questions.
First, do NOT put a non-vette tranny into your Vette. I did and I regret it. There are internal parts differences that will make it behave like a truck!
I recommend that you have yours rebuilt. If I had to do it over again, I would have gone that route.

The guy that originally put my car together hodge-podged a trans out of who-knows-what. It did ok, but it was never right. The guy in Florida that rebuilt it commented on how much ingenuity the guy had to use so many incompatible pieces to make the trans work. It's Corvette specific and perfect now. If you get the right guy, they can fix anything.
