I find my '96 hatch open at times for no reason. Occasionally the release will click continuously for no reason. I can only stop it by disconnecting the battery. Any suggestions?
I've noticed that when I find the hatch open, the doors are also unlocked.

Hatch switch in drivers door...mine does the same thing on occasion. Try wiggling it around to see if that is your problem. They are very cheesy plastic.

Both of my door panel switches wont return to center by themselves so I have to be careful when popping the hatch. At some point I will use some contact cleaner and/or lubricant to see if it will correct the stickiness. If that wont work, new ones are about $40-50 each. Corvette tax at its best

Did the (Passive keyless entry) PKE light come on as well?

My PKE went crazy and I was also getting the hatch openning and the mechnism going off repeatedly... then the light (PKE) came on , on the dash... the fob wouldnt work, and trying to reset the fob via the dash programming didnt work. So... I took the PKE fuse out and now I dont use the PKE. I think its the PKE module behind the dash...
But thats a serious undertaking... taking the dash out.. so I make due w the key for now

That's what my PKE did - it went nuts and I had the module replaced that is located inside the dash. A used one was $100. I have the old one and it looks like its in good shape. I did not see any broken components, so it must be the ram chips that are bad (according to the FSM).

Yes, it is equipped. I removed the battery from the fob a year ago, that had no effect. Someone suggested to remove PKE fuse. Haven't had time to try that yet.
Nope. Don't have the time, and I was not comfortable ripping the top off of the dash and squeezing my big fat hand to get at it, so I had the local Chevy dealer do it for $500 installed.
My issue was with the PKE light always remaining on while the car was running. Got tired of seeing the light on all the time so I had it fixed. Do a search for my name and see the thread on my PKE issue. I was able to turn the light off by re-inserting the key after I had turned off the motor.
Does the C4 not have a hatch release lockout with the car running? On the 3rd gens, you can't open the hatch via the hatch release button with the car running.

My 91 hatch was popping open while I was driving. It just about drove me crazy. I kept having to pull over and push it back down.
