Working on my 1993 6 speed.Fresh engine.Ported the heads, LT4 hot cam, 1.6 roller rockers. Idles bad, original chip.
Where is the knock sensor module, of course I know where the sensors on the block are, I put them in. I heard putting in a LT4 module in will help.I believe on a 1996 LT4 the module is in the ECU.In 93 is isn't.
Anybody ran across this problems before. Thanks so much for any help
What about Injectors and timing ! Your computer will not allow much cam change because of timing !
The Knock sensor is on the passenger side of the block about middle ways.
The plastic wire plug in is likely real brittle from heat be carefull .
Your may have to get your computer reprogrammed.
At some point [ I think 95 up ] they are flashable but some have to be traded or sent in to be reprogrammed.
Go to our Scan and Tune C 4 section and do a search because about every question and problem you have has likely been asked there.
I'm always saying aways build with adding more parts in mind cause the need for speed is highly addictive and only limited to the size of your bank account.
There is no way for you to use a LT4 knock module. The 1993 ECM doesn't have a removable KM like the 94-96 models.
I had a 89 TPI that had knock sensor ! They all should already have one but I think he has a problem with cam and timing ! Like you said no flashing the 93 computer.
I think Fastchip and we have a member that does them if you have the specs for the cam. Not too difficult !
I have the Aftermarket Accel Gen 7 laptop tunable computer so I'm not the one to ask !
I would just have a mail order tuner burn you a new chip for the mods you have which should make it run much better. Then if you think it still may be detecting knock throw a scanner on it and see if it is. I read you can actually make the knock sensors less sensitive on the 92-93 cars by adding some resistance between the sensor and the ecm. There are some guides at how to do it online.
Here's a guide for an F body I found with a quick google search:
One last thing to check. Make sure you got the correct knock sensors installed if you replaced them. OBDII cars 1995-1996 had slightly different knock sensors that output differently and will cause high knock counts at idle and just runs like crap.
