Ive got a '88 C4 with a yellow top thats about 3 yrs old and in August I got back from spending a year in Korea, the whole time my Vette was in storage with the battery disconnected but was fine when I got back and fired up the first time. Then the car spent a month on a boat on the way to Germany. I picked the car up October and the battery was dead. I jumped it and things were fine for a few miles until the volts started decreasing. So Ive since put a new alternator on the car and have had the battery on a automatic charger for about a week now. The first few days nothing happened so I figured the charged was defective(it was a charger I got at a local store called Globus that says its good with agm batteries). So I then had my dad ship me a battery tender which its been on for about 3-4 days now. Just now Im getting a blinking green light. I was just about to give up. Wheww
I would have replaced the batt myself, but hopefully all is taken care of.
Baumholder? The 1/68 armor use to be there. (or something like that, I do know it was an armor unit)
The two most hated assignments at one time were Baumholder and Wildflecken. That's why I requested Wildflecken. Wildflecken was handed back to the Germans though.
Im at Baumholder-its still the least desirable post in Germany but coming from Korea everythings an upgrade for me. Just cant wait to get the Vette inspected once I get my window tint off and finally drive her around.
Ive been getting the emails from the Corvette club but havent had a chance to meet up yet-a few days after the Vette got here we left to spend a month in the field and just got back a few days ago-with my luck probably just in time for the winter weather :/
I am trying to take the Vette to Hooters next weekend though lol
ALL lead acid batteries self discharge even disconnected. During discharge lead sulphate collects on the plates and upon charging, the lead sulphate converts back to lead and sulfuric acid. After 4+ wks, lead sulphate becomes hard and will no longer convert back to lead and sulfuric acid and lead sulphate is a good insulator. A sulphated battery has less plate area and has less amphour capacity. A fully sulphated battery will not draw current from a battery charger and is then a door stop. NEVER leave lead acid batteries (gel or not) sit for lon periods doing nothing, it ruins them! Always use a battery tender and keep them charged up and they will experience a normal life.
