Default ZR-1 Motor For Sale

I found this on CL. What I find interesting is that it's black. Could it be a "one off" motor from GM or did someone have it painted or Powder Coated black?

Ad says it was for a Merc-Cruiser. I think marine engines are normally painted black. But if it a marine engine why does it have a power steering pump?

$12,000.oo?!? You can almost buy a whole ZR-1 for that. I guess if it's new and never used it's rare?

I agree with cuisinartvette. You could likely part out that motor for WAY more than $12K

This is about the going rate for a NOS 405hp crate engine . Black may make it worth a little less or more depending on history. I have a unique 405 crate motor that seems to have red cam cover lettering instead of black, I thinking its because its a GM HOT PARTS engine instead of the usual GM leftover NOS crate engine for warranty claims. I have been researching the history of the motor for a while, I have some supporting documentation, but its certainly a "hot parts" engine.

Well, Butter my bread. I guess that's a good price. It certainly is a great looking engine and if new, the price is good too. Turn key 32 valve for $12,000, go for it.
