I bet all the people saying they have a '83 are looking at the build dates. And I think they started selling them in April '83
I really don't understand why people continue to do this.
The so called "83 Corvette" isn't the only time this was done.
Every car manufacturer does this every year. They begin the next model year production in the previous calendar year.
It's always been that way.
The 2011 Corvette started production in 2010. So, look at the door jamb of some of them and your going to come to the conclusion you have a 2010.
The new Camaro is another example.
It was first introduced as a production model for sale to the public in early 2009 as a 2010 model. There were no 2009 new model Camaro's.
But there were plenty 2010 Camaro's on the 2009 Power Tour.
Ah yes, the fabled factory metal '62 split window Corvette with the 427 Hemi engine and Hurst four speed transmission. I should've bought that one when I had the chance.
The 10th digit of the VIN for all 1984 Corvettes is the letter "E" regardless of the month/year they were produced.
The 40-some test cars that were built did in fact have a letter "D" in the 10th position which identified them as 1983 model year cars. The one remaining '83 C4 that is in the Museum has a "D" for the year.
