1990 Tranny
Just got my vette up and running. The guy i bought it from said it would not shift from 1st to 2nd. Today i took it around the block and got it to shift to second if i pulled the lever back to the 2nd position then put it back to D to make it go into 3rd. It goes in second but not automatically. Also the fluid is about 3 inches above the operating line? Dunno if that has to do with anything. I am working on changing the fluid and filter. Also could it be a messed up linkage cable or ecm? Or do i just need to do a rebuild. Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated!

The 90 is a non electronic trans, so the ECM shouldn't have anything to do with it. Changing the filter and fluid might help, but unless the detent cable is off the linkage, it probably isn't the problem. I would guess that age and wear has caused the internals to dry up, and you're losing line pressure to one or more of the clutch packs. Plan on a rebuild.
