I do not own a C4 but I am looking at a neighbor's '96 car that he is considering selling. It has been setting in his garage for about two years so I need some help. When you turn the key on without starting the engine, I can't find what I think is the "CEL" displayed on the message center. Is this the normal display location or it is displayed in another location? If it is displayed on the message center, would someone be good enough to post a picture showing its location? I have looked at a lot of C4's and have heard of people disconnecting the "CEL" or moving it to another location so I want to make sure it is working correctly.
The "Service Engine Soon" light will display with the key turned on, but before starting the engine.
It is located in the drivers information center.
This is the square display just about the A/C-Heater controls, which is just above the radio.
When you first turn on the key, several of the lights in that display will light up.
Then all but the service engine soon and the battery icon will go out.
Once the engine is started and system checks are performed the lights should go out.

That is approximately where I thought it should be. The light does not work or is disconnected on this car which give me some concern (even though I have an OBDII code reader and it doesn't show to have any codes). It also has an aftermarket radio so it might have been removed/damaged during that install. Thanks for the quick help.
