Ok, I put the 'Vette back together after the new ECM. I took it over to a friends house to see what he was up to, and I wasn't impressed. This thing was smoking so bad, I thought I popped another head gasket.
Oh crap! When I got back I checked the oil. Yup, two to three quarts over full. That's how much gas was dumped down the engine. It ran right past the rings. Now I hoped I didn't hurt the bearings running it with that much gas in the oil. I bought some new oil and a filter. I adjusted the wipers while I was under the hood.
The first thing I noticed was my fuel mixture meter is now readable. It was flaky before and you could barely tell what was going on. It has a much stronger reading now from the O2 sensor. I took it out of town about 3 miles to a turn around point. The speed limit is 55, so I jumped on it to get up to speed. Holy Crap!! What was that??!! It felt like I got rear-ended. I looked around and realized that's just how this car pulls out now! There's a night and day difference it the way it runs. I guess all the little stuff I found, plus the computer, amounts to a radical difference. It even idles a little smoother. (It has a pretty aggressive roller cam in it)
I'm happy. I'll be driving it whenever I can. I was going to do a comparison with a carburetor in the spring, but I don't think I can get a carburetor to run like this. I'm good, but I'm good enough to know I'm not THAT good.
