Default Maintenance Tips

Still working (and learning) on my son's graduation present ('92). Noticed a
couple "problems" that I repaired. I decided to enter two Tech Tips but the
problem with that is, unless you know about these "problems" you won't be
looking for the Tech Tips!

So, in the interest of sharing/giving back, I'm going to mention what I found
here briefly - you may have/may have not seen the same conditions:

1) while changing the air filter, I totally removed and inspected the housing.
I replaced the new filter while the housing was off and noticed on both sides
that the lip/edge of the lower housing had "sunken" - pulled away, which
prevented a tight seal allowing for air to enter UNDER the air filter and
directly into the engine!

2) the car is getting a new DieHard battery; the entire area was inspected and
cleaned. I noticed the large harness running behind the battery tray had the
loom worn away from rubbing on the back (sharp) edge of the battery tray.
I also noticed the drain hose (for the windshield/wiper area) does not pass
thru this area but instead drops water on these wires - in this area!

Just want folks to be aware of these if you haven't run across them yet!

Default Re: Maintenance Tips (linkschamp)

I've had to replace my air filter housing twice. Both times they cracked along the molding seam near the neck where the air duct fits. In both cases the air duct would slip off letting unfiltered air in. I had to use duct tape to keep it in place the last time until I could get a replacement. I got the last housing from a Corvette salvage yard and it seems to be holding up well for now.
