Default 5.3 LM7 buildup

I picked up a LM7 short block for $150.00 with 35k on the block. So Im starting a build and will shine some light on my next low budget C4 vette. Im building it for my truck and the motor that comes out that will go in a C4 project with the same mods and like power.

Im thinking of a cam in this area 214-218 or 218-218 on a 114 for all around performance. Im tring to keep it low cost so I have to decide if Im going to get some LS6 heads and have them worked and milled.

Im tring to find the right combo Ill probly get on the phone with some cam people tomorrow to help me decide. Maybe a custom grind.

Eitherway another LSx is brewing!!!

That cam will run good in that motor, keep the truck intake too if you can.

Yeah If this goes well Ill try to hunt the L33 block down which is the aluminum 5.3. Im going to sqeeze as much as I can out of it and pass emissions fine. Im hoping to land in the 400ish area with cam and heads. I might talk to Lloyd Elliot for some ideas and work.

He threw that in for free with rails and injectors. I heard that monsterous ugly thing does create TQ so Ill try to make it pretty. I see custom work in my future.

Its a nice little winter project.

Love to find a low mile 5.3 or 6.0 for my truck, been aching to port set of those heads/intake. Sounds like fun to me.

When funds get better...

Think it was HRM a few years ago did a buildup very similar. Ported stock heads, mild cam headers tune got around 450chp which sounded stout out of a little motor.

Are you going to change the rear main seal and oil pan gasket? Both of my trucks (z71and yukon) leaked from there.

I'd seen some dyno comparisons of the truck 6.0L intake vs the LS2 and a FAST 90/92 somewhere, maybe ls1forums? The truck intake didn't make that much more torque down low, nor did it drop off that much up top. So it wasn't a huge difference, though there was some difference.

I assume when you say you'll use the truck intake, you mean for the motor going in your truck. When you pull your current motor and drop it in a 'vette, you would swap that intake, no? The truck one is pretty tall.

Your correct tq is more important to me with the truck. The gains are not worth the cost to me as far as doing a budget build. The car would most likely get a LS6 intake or LS2.

Running the larger intakes on the 5.3 will lose ya power. Nice to see for once that usually the first part of an engine most mod can be left in place for once. Those motors are awesome, they need so little to make good power.
Wheres my winning lotto ticket.

i am not 100% sure but i think there may be a valve issues with a LS6 head on a 5.3 cause of the small bore.. you might just be good with having the stock 5.3 heads ported.. i have seen people pretty happy with thunder racings 224 cam in a 5.3.

The bore is smaller on a 5.3 then an ls1 but they share the same rods and crank dimensions. i think the 5.3 an 4.8 share the same bore but have different rods and crank.
