85 Starting Hard when cold???
It never did that before the last couple of years that I owned it.
My 94 starts up right away in comparison.
Anyone know what this could be?
Thanx
Hard cold start would indicate lack of fuel while cranking; CSI not working as stated by Muffin.
But opening the throttle pass a certain point cuts of the injectors
On a EFI engine ,you cant give it gas ( make richer ) like on a carb engine;
there is no accelerator pump to squirt fuel in.
Opening the throttle lets more air in ; makes engine leaner
I'm betting it's zero....either as stated above or due to a dead fuel pump relay. It may be relying on the back up system (oil pressure switch) to energize the pump. Listen for two second prime at key on, and watch the fuel pressure gauge. If it remains at zero for the first few seconds of cranking, and then suddenly jumps to 38-44 psi, replace the fuel pump relay.And no, the oil pressure switch won't cause long cranking if the relay is OK. They are wired in parallel, no series.

Correct. The only time this could come into play is if the IAC is stuck closed and the engine is getting no air during cold cranking. Opening the throttle would allow sufficient air for it to start then.....but unless the IAC immediately opened, it would stumble and then die as soon as you took your foot off the pedal. Technically possible, but not very likely.
