I have a 94 vette, over last winter I had the entire engine rebiult. Taken out of the car, had some performance mods done, ( new cam, decked the heads and block, porting done to the heads, new opti spark, and new clutch, as well as all new seals and rings and gaskets.) After getting it back I had a small oil leak, the builder could not find it. After trying to fix it a few times without luck, it finally seemed to be fixed. Nothing for a few months then on Tuesday while I had it running for a little while. After pulling it back into the garage I saw it ... A few little drops on the driveway. Anyone have any ideas where the leak could possibly be so I can tell the builder to check there. Any ideas would be great. I really need to get this fixed. Thanks A lot.
I vote timing chain cover. There's something about the way the gasket fits there, often it needs a little RTV here and there to prevent leaking.
I have same leak, otherwise car is great right.... But anoying little few drops... well its where the timing chain cover and oil pan meet.. there is a U type Seal there that needs RTV as you mentioned. I plan on getting this done b4 the summer.
Possible the builder didn't have the LT1 tool kit- a sleeve that protects the O-ring as you install the waterpump. I think it tends to roll back as you install the WP. PLRX had to do the same, tear down and re-install using the special tool kit.
add some oil dye to the oil.... run it a week, take an ultra violet light and there you go. If the builder says he COULD not find it, either he did not WANT to find it or you might be in trouble.
