Default Moronic Mechanic

Today at my friends shops, one of his guys was raising my 87 vette up on the lift. Not once, but twice there was a crunching sound; he placed at least one of the lifts on the body, specifically the floor pan. I looked and saw that the floor pan is cracked. Is this a huge deal? Easiest fix? Thanks.

Awesome, thanks for the links. Just curious though, is there any potential harm in driving the car for a while then fixing it later?

reading some of the posts I linked, people found out they had cracks quite a bit after buying the car. Depends on how bad it is. Do you feel any flex when sitting?

The seats are connected to part of the steel frame. The floor pan is not and easily repaired later.

Your friend needs to hire a better mechanic. If the clown damaged the floor, I wouldn't trust him to do anything else, not even an oil change.

??? Not on either of mine. The bolts go through the floorpan and use a wide piece of metal to spread the load. Same with the inner seatbelt attachment point.

So...is the "mechanic" paying for the repairs?

The mechanic should pay for the repair, of course.
But I would not let him do it.....

There are just too many stupid people out there nowadays....thats why I do my repairs myself, I do not trust any mechanic.

I'd get three estimates for the repair and have them pay for the damage.

I second that. No different than an accident out on the street.

This is a good reason why you should bring a print out of where to put the jacking pucks to show the shop. There are some pics around here. Most don't find their cracked floorboards till long after it has happened.

Cars and trucks can a be a PITA to rack and lift, I know I do it like a billion times a day. However, if your head is not up your butt and you have half a brain and are paying attention to what you are doing, there should be no problem. Idiot should pay for it. I hate stupid people, a lot of people, some "professional" mechanics included should not work on cars. I can complain too I wrench for a living but I am not one of "those" guys. I have seen it all too much...

If a tech can't even lift a car properly, he shouldn't be anywhere near it with a tool of any description.
