Today went to move my car ...
i uncovered the car , the windshield was fine ...
i didnt open the windows and walked away, the sun was real hot today !
after an hour i have a long crack on the windshield !
I installed some quick brake pads just to roll around
Brake upgrade work will start in 2 more weeks.
Bummer !
pd : have any of you experienced something like this ?
Thanks

Yes, 6 months ago in our summer. there must have been a very small pit from a rock, but pretty much not noticeable. One day in the hot sun and there's a huge crack. This was on my 2008- which costs even more than a 90's one.

Happened with one of my past cars several years ago. Parked at the airport (in the summer) with a tiny windshield chip and returned two days later to a huge crack across the entire windshield. BTW, sorry to hear of your hot sun -- not a problem here in Central OH.
Sammy....sometimes it just happens. Could have been a microscopic rock chip that you couldn't see that just picked today to spread. I had it happen once going to wash my pickup.....cold water hit the hot windshield, and that was all she wrote.
He lives in a South American country with a population smaller than Los Angeles, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that windshield coverage isn't required by law in Chile.
Insurace should cover it if you have glass coverage. The reason for the damage is not as relevant as the actual damage. The insurance carrier does not want you to have impaired vision.
good news is , they are easy to replace yourself, and you can find them for bout $200 brand new.
Not necessarily where he lives. He lives in Chile.
Sammy-
I would not attempt this yourself. If there is a good glass shop in your city, ask them if they can do the replacement and if they can acquire a new windshield.
Also, there could be some rusting or decay of the metal on the windshield frame. The trim must be carefully removed. and all of the old adhesive must be cleaned out and the proper adhesive must be used to get a good seal.
I understand your pain. My windshield crached Wednesday.
I was at work and when I left I saw something that I thought was a small twig or stem or something. Then a few miles later it traveled all the way across the bottom from left to right. I can't remember a rock or anything hitting the window. It was about 20 degrees, so I don't think it was the heat.
The glass guy that services our fleet at work also told me the manufacturers are intentionally casting the glass thinner these days to save money (typical cost monster trick). The result is that the windshields crack much easier today than they did 10 years ago. Hasn't made the glass any cheaper, just made the profits higher for the bean counters.
The OEM glass on new cars is thinner and has sound deadening in it, which raises costs as well.

The windshield is an integral part of the air bag system. It the WS isn't installed properly a deployed airbag can blow it out possibly leaving it and you on the hood of your car.
