Yesterday was in the mid 70s in Wichita Falls TX (north TX) this morning it is in the 30s! Road around topless yesterday, pulled my '90 roadster out of the garage this morning and put the top up - the rear plastic window split all the way from left to right.
My cloth top is in excellent shape...can I have just the window replaced? Can I have it replaced with the glass window on the later C4s?
Need your guys advice...do any of you know of a good shop to have this work done - somewhere between Dallas and Oklahoma City.
To sew a new window in the top has to come off. The labor will be expensive unless you do it yourself.
You can buy a retro kit and new top with a glass window.
+1 - that is the best thing to do. Second choice is to call around and see if any of the local interior shops can do a repair. But, if you want to try something temporary, and prepared to do the R&R anyway, if you are talented enough and gutsy you might be able to cut out your old one and put in a new plastic using a high temp glue gun, like sold in the craft stores. If you do a crappy job, you will be no worse off than you are now.
I would cut out the old one, and cut the new plastic so that it would be a couple of inches bigger than the opening. Use some blue painter's masking tape and cover the plastic that will show through the opening so that if you get any glue on the part that shows, it will just peal right off. Then glue it from the inside. Start at the top edge just to get it on, then proceed to the sides and then the bottom from the inside. Then start on the outside and work carefully around the edge seam. Be neat, that edge will show.
