Default Help with identification

What is the black stuff around the metal ac hose? The blue arrows are pointing to it. I noticed when I turned my ac on, its leaking out where the black stuff is. It seems like some type of filler.

So what is it? where can I get some? and do I just pull out the old stuff, put in the new stuff and done deal?

I am not sure what it's made of, but yes it is a sealer.

I was considering putting black silicone over it to patch it but id rather replace it correctly if I can figure out what it is.

Any idea on where to buy a sealer like this? local auto part store?

Not sure, but any shop that does A/C work should be able to tell you.
C4's aren't the only cars using this stuff.

The parts store may have the stuff called dum-dum, it's like a roll of caulk used for sealing gaps in panels etc.

I think "dum-dum" is very similar to the black silicone I was going to use. I looked it up and its like a black rubber sealant like you said. Will look into it further but I think thats what will be replaced with.

Window Ribbon Sealer works well and is about the best you can find at the Discounters (well at least out here). Clean up any excess with Denatured Alcohol. Make sure the case isn't leaking at the top or bottom of the Firewall too only don't seal up the weep hole or you will have moisture dripping into the passenger compartment. If you want the real stuff, these guys carry it: www.ackits.com
