Default C4 rear window will not open

my 1985 corvette rear window will not open. There is no battery in it, Is there a way of manually opening it. I tried the the handle at the base of the latch with no luck. I pulled on the release cable and still can not get it open Please Help I got the engine harness pulled out so there is no way to hook up the battery

There is no handle at the base, that's probably the latch for the Targa storage. If you tried to pull on the cable end located near the centre of the hatch and you still can't open it, hook up a battery and pop it!

It may help if somebody pushes down on the back of the window as you pull on the wire. If the car has sat for a long period of time, the weatherstripping could be holding the window in place.

There is a spring loaded "popper" that is part of the latch mechanism and if it's not working, the window would not move once the latch is released.

as an additional note, take that release wire, crimp on an electrical lug, and install a key ring. sure makes it a lot easier if you have to use it...

Can you get to the wires that operate the latch at any point. You could just connect 12v and ground to to the wires.

Or use jumper cables and a GREAT deal of care to supply
power to the battery cables under the hood. This will
be a two-person job, one to hold the jumper cables
APART and AWAY FROM THE VETTE, and another to
push. Me, I'd personally hold the cables after showing
somebody where the hatch release switch is.

That is a good tip. I'm also going to do this. I had to find out about the release the hard way after the solenoid stopped working.
