Breakdown Under Load Conditions
out for inspection sticker this morning. When I drove it home, it ran great. I
put it into storage/garage where its been for five weeks, so today was the
first time it even got started in over a month!
Took it out on the highway to "warm it up" before inspection. Found out it
would not raise the rpm's above 3,000 under load (no problem in neutral).
Car would pop, buck and not go higher. Returned to the garage to inspect
the engine to be sure I hadn't nocked something off - took about 20 min.
Everything looked fine - took it back out and tried again.
Car pulled very strong (surprised how strong) in 1st (auto) up to 5,000 and
in 2nd up to 5,500 before I let off. Did it a second time, same result - no
problem at all.
Got it inspected (passed w/flying colors) - drove it home and parked it.
Get's detailed tomorrow - my son will wake up with it in the driveway
Saturday morning...
Any ideas?? Is this the Opti problem? Bought a new fuel filter but haven't
replaced it yet (he needs something to do!!). Should I not worry and just
watch for reoccurance given the car sat so long??
Oh yea, its a '92 Auto Coupe w/81K miles.

People are quick to blame the fuel filter, but according to GM (and a few GM techs I've talked with) as long as the engine starts and runs, the filter and pump are fine.
