Did you read your owners manual. If you do not have one I suggest you buy one

If I had an owners manual I would not have posted this question. Can someone else please give me some info?

Is a 4spd trans with a 2spd behind it giving 7 gears
Once engine is up to specified temp O/d will be automatically engaged ( Govt fuel saving measure ).
so when you shift , you have 1st , 2ndOD , 3rdOD , 4thOD .
O/d will also automatically disengage on hard Accel ; just like a auto kicking down

Most over ride this function by turning the O/d off using the O/d button before driving off so as to have normal 4 spd trans and only engage the O/d on the highway
Pushing the button gives complete manual operation of the O/d as required
Depressing the clutch while engage / disengage O/d helps it live longer.

If you do not know history of your O/d; change the fluid and filter NOW.
Most mechanical O/d Problems are associated with O/d that were not serviced at factory specified 12,000
miles
Due to age ,there are many minor electrical problems ( bad wiring / old relays / etc ) that are easily and cheaply fixed
