Is there a forum where people can share knowledge about something they learned while working on their car?
You know, things like using a paint brush dipped in chassis grease to lube complicated or hard to reach parts, like a door hinge.
Another example: Here's something I figured out about inflating my tires to the right pressure:
We all know that the right way to check tire pressure is when the tire is cold, or, at worst, when the car has been driven less than a mile before taking a measurement
My problem was that the nearest gas station with an air pump is about 3 miles away from home. Believing that doing things the right way is the best way (usually), I wanted to check the tire pressure on cold tires.
My solution was to stop by the gas station on the way home, over inflate the tires a little, then bleed off the excess pressure the next morning when the tires had been sitting for 10-12 hours.
Now, if I can find a decent tire gauge I'll be good to go.

Problem description:
On the fuse panel door there is a “key” that closes the door with ½ turn. On my car, for some reason, the “lock” was rotated 90 degrees, which means the key wouldn't work, it wouldn't hold the door closed.
It's easy enough to use needle nosed pliers to pinch the lock and remove it. Problem is, the lock will fall behind the fuse panel, among all those wires and sharp things. Then you'll have a hell of a problem laying on your back, with one of you kids holding your bad leg in the air, trying to feel around for the lock.
Before I pinched out the lock, I put a piece of electrical wire through the hole in the center lock. On the end I was holding, I bent the wire into a big “L” in case I dropped it. Then I found the other end of my wire under the dash and put a hook on that end.
When I pinched out the lock it went dingle, dingle, dingle down the wire, then stopped at the bottom hook, thus eliminating the chore of trying to find by feel where it landed had I not used the wire. Just work your wire gently, don't go poking things too much to get the wire out the bottom of the dash.
Putting the “lock' back in wasn't too bad, two tries and I heard a heart warming snap.
