So this question will clearly expose me as a 'Vette newbie, but I have to ask it for purposes of my own sanity: Are spots with paint chips in danger of rusting?
There are probably 3 or 4 paint chips on my C4, none bigger than a dime. Most notably, there's one on the body in front of the driver's side door and another on the back above the passenger side brake lights. I live 3 blocks from the beach. Are these spots in danger of rusting?
I don't think any of the spots are bad enough cosmetically that they need to be touched up, but if there's any chance of rusting, I will touch up immediately.
There is no "down to metal" on the actual body. Now, that said, C4's CAN rust in certain areas....the windshield frame and hood hinge areas are prone to rust. If your targa weatherstrip is bad, replace it soon....if it leaks, you will have rust in the frame.
That's what I thought, and that's the answer I was hoping to get, but, like I said, had to ask just for my own sanity.
Feel free to make fun of me for this one. Is this some kind of trial I need to go through in order to stay in the 'Vette club after such a pathetic display?
the plastic used in c4 vette bodies will not rust, but WILL suffer SMC degradation by UV exposure if left exposed...visit your local auto recycling yard and note SMC (sithy made cars) plastic bodywork disintegration on fiero/4th gen f-bods/etc at panel edges that were chipped and left exposed...(c1/2/3 vettes made from 'real' fiberglass are much more resistant to UV damage, GM foxxed us again)
