Default acrylic top

Just bought a 95 coupe <yellow> and i am thinking of going
for a $1200 acrylic bronze top to replace the yellow top.
Are there any advantages or dis advantages i should know about
and can you find them cheaper than $1200?

Thanks

They can crack. And the acrylic tops seem to have more of a problem coming unglued compared to the fiberglass tops. Plus you have to deal with that they are aftermarket which isn't as good as the OEM top.

I have both (acrylic and painted) for my '96.
Painted top for the summer, and acrylic for winter.

In the summer with the acrylic top, the interior can be like an oven if you leave it parked outside for any length of time.

They crack, scratch, spiderweb, not very easy to see up out of, hot in the summer, and generally are not worth the trouble IMO.

Default I like mine.

Car feels more open with the acrylic top. My painted top makes me feel a little claustrophobic. I have the original acrylic top on my '96 and it has crazed a little, but no cracks. I never had an aftermarket top, but some are total crap from what other members say. I think a yellow car with a dark-colored bronze or blue top would look great.

Try it out here some time. Marco only had the acrylic top when I bought him....by April, I was shopping for a painted top.

They are neat for evenings and winter....but in the summer, the A/C can't even keep up. Plus it always seemed like the sun was in my eyes with the acrylic top on.

Keep your eyes open on the auction site and neighboring town's free lists. If your patient an OEM top will show up for considerably less than you may think.

Good luck!

Oh yeah, your in luck. Tops from 89 and up will fit your 95.

You pick these things up at Carlisle....LOL...major reason to go there is to "find" stuff at mostly reasonable prices after a little bit of haggling..

I no longer own my black on black 6 sp 95 which I purchased with both pained and glass tops....To be honest I do not think I ever had the painted top onthe ar for more then a day or two TOTAL...and I can say for a fact that I only ran without any top a couple of time...the glass top was on the car 99.9 percent of the time...(Dark BLUE Glass BTW)....

Never had a problem with the A/C not keeping up BUT I can tell you that if I parked inthe sun this old boy opened the windows and did NOT get in the car for at least 5-10 minutes ...I did not want to burn my rear end...

Looking back I should have only purchased the glass top and NOT the painted top....

In SoCal the sun always shine. I bought a headliner for it. I offered to swap it for a painted roof with anyone.

One of these days I'll paint the sucker off, like Friz said it great for evening and cloudy days.
