Mirror part?

So I have not had a driver side mirror on the car since I got it and I am now trying to find the plastic backing piece that the mirror sticks too. I bought a used C4 mirror from ebay just to find out that the mounts for the motor inside the casing is different and the spots where the backing hooks to the motor are different also. I have an 84' and need the mirror backing plate. Seems impossible to find... really annoying... but i'm sure they are rarely ever broken...anyone know where to find one? Or at least what year did they change the mounting inside the mirror housing?
