On my 87 it's a 21mm socket. Make sure you use a 1/2" drive 6-point socket as the bolts are torqued to something like 133 ft-lbs. A 12-point socket might round off the edges of the bolt face. Use a 16" or longer breaker bar to loosen the bolts.
Factory bolts have a threadlocker already on them. The old bolts can be reused by removing the old threadlocker and using some Blue Loctite on the threads and re-torquing.
Its my first break job by myself and i do have a decent tool box! Ive done up new pads on the back but just needed to get new rotors and pads on the front. It just seems everything i try is stripping it but ill head back out tomorrow and try an 18 or 19 mm thanks keep you guys posted!!
Since when do you go to do a job without a tool tray with all the tools and sizes you may need.
Yea..I keep trying that but end up getting up wiping off the wrong tool, and back to the box to try again. I have been known to make so many trips back to the tool chest, that I have forgotten what I started out to do!
Everything went great got the new rotors and pads on the front end and the breaks are feeling better than ever!! It was an 18 mm on my 84 after that the job was a breeze i could yank those things right off by hand no breaker bar necessary with the hood poped! Thanks for all the advise it definitely made a difference!!!
