Default armrest removal...

I want to remove the armrest from the door panel. I have checked the search and did not find what I was looking for. Has anybody ever removed these and how are they mounted to the panel? I want to take mine off and recondition them..thanks for any help..

IIRC after removing the two screws in the cupped area, get yourself a couple of small flat blade screwdrivers, use one to get between the armrest pad and door panel and slighty (be gentle) pry upwards just enough so you can see in between the armrest pad and panel where the two plastic tangs fasten the pad to panel. Using the other screwdriver push one tang towards the door (away from you) to release it from the panel. Repeat for other tang.
These cars have old brittle plastic so be very gentle, I was able to remove my armrest pads several times without breaking anything so you can too! I'm not aware of any recommended methods I just know this worked for me. Good luck.

If you take the door panel off you can easily push them out from below without damaging them they do break easily and new ones are expensive and they wont match if your colors are faded

That is true but it's alot more work than necessary just to remove armrest pads from the door panel. If the OP had mentioned he was removing the door panels then yes it would be the safer approach.
Also, the more someone removes items from a car the higher likelihood of breaking parts and/or screws and fasteners falling into the proverbial black hole. Let's not forget if it's the first time removing a door panel it could be a very time consuming endevor. Even taking the door panel off doesn't guarentee those tangs won't break, it just makes them easier to see.

I have to replace the outer sills and I think I have to remove the door panels if I recall. So the door panel removed maybe the way to go. I will have to see how everything works out. Oh and by the way not a buckeye fan...GO BLUE....and not Kentucky...
