As I was ready to take the 'vette out for a drive when there was no snow, I started the car and let it run for about ten minutes. Unfortunately it didn't get to go anywhere because the heater core blew up.
So what I did was rerouted the water hose so that there won't be any water coming in or out of the system so Im able to drive it now.
But now I am stuck with a decision, whether to replace the heater core or get rid of it alltogether? I only drive the car during summer and I don't remember the last time I had to use the heater.
Any opinions? or comments about which method is easier? I know heater cores are not that expensive but they are a PITA to get to so which choice would make all the work worth it?
If you don't want a heater, no further action is neccessary. If you are thinking of removing it, you might as well put in a new core, same amount of work (and you'll have a heater, as well as a new attitude on life.)

I thought about this long and hard, and I finally came to the conclusion that it is easier to do nothing than to undertake a difficult job.

Geez, I ought to be a management consultant.
I like your thinking, however I am bugged with the fact that there is dead weight and wasted space in the engine compartment if the system is obsolete now.
I own 6 Corvettes and all 3 of my C3's are summer only cars and all of them have the heater Core Bypassed...and have been this way for at least 10 years ... my other 3 do see an occasional drive in Colder (NOT winter) weather and all 3 have working heaters...
IF I remember right the defroster etc NEVER worked all that well when I drove one of them as daily driver...."astro" ventilation I swear was a myth...
Yeah its a big project but you can break it into small increments if ya want. It is probly warm enough to work outside but not really warm enough to drive without a defroster. (Dunno about IN but its already hot here in FL.) Start on it and work it a little at a time.
