Replacement parts are horrible!!!!
Well, I have started this great project of restoring my 93. I am now in the process of trying to find parts. I started with a call to the dealer for new OEM replacements, and as many of you probably know the do not exist from GM any longer. Soooo, I decided to go the other route and buy "factory look replacement parts". The finish is good but the fit is total junk. Anyone know where to find OEM parts new? Thanks in advance as it has become very frustrating.

Well I am replacing the shift plate and the information bezel. I ordered one of each from a company and they arrived today. They did not fit good at all. I have found some of these parts around, but the used ones seem to be worn out like the ones I already had.
As far as the 94, I can find tons of new oem parts there. It is the 1992-93 parts I can not. They changed the shift plate and information bezel for the newer dash in 94, so they will not change over unless I change the dash also.

Before GM became Government Motors they maintained a warehouse which was a repository for parts that had been discontinued. A dealer could, by using a special code, order from this source. Do not know if it still exists or not but it was a lifesaver for me and the 85.

Is this a myth?G.M. wouldnt maintain an inventory of discontinued parts, cant see it.The reason this makes no sense to me,G.M. could care less about parts availability for their vehicles.G.M. discontinues parts on average after 8 years.I know dealers use parts suppliers such as Vintage Parts for discontinued parts.Another thing to keep in mind, when somebody happens to have an N.O.S part you will pay for it.I paid $125 for an ashtray door for a 91.

You might try Modern Chevrolet in Winston-Salem. They have a big warehouse offsite from the dealership that I think they stock some NOS parts.

Don't buy buy electrical parts from Mid America Motorworks. I bought a couple power window switches last year. The lever in both parts became loose and wobbly in one season. I have no idea where Mid America sources these things, but they are the worst quality I've ever seen. Suffice to say I have a new pair of AC Delco switches sitting on my workbench.
