Default 86 wheel spinners

I'll try again. I just bought new wheel spinners for my 86. They are self-adhesive. The old ones don't want to come off. Any ideas on how to get the old ones off.

Can you post a pic of what you are talking about, would be very helpful as I can't quite visualize the issue.

No I can't post a picture. I have the original wheels on the 86 and the center cap has a crossed flag emblem attached which is like 3/8 tall and maybe an 1 & 1/2" wide which appears to be stuck to the cap with atomic glue.

I purchased a replacement from Ecklers called a spinner though it does not spin. It's simply round....the same size as the center cap but before I can install it I need to remove the previous stock flag emblem which is adhered to that cap. Then this self-adhesive replacement cap just fits over it. It's nice....all black with checkered flags.

I'm going to try heating it up with a heat gun....just the cap as I don't want to melt the current emblem. Hopefully with heating the cap I can then pry off the old emblem.

I don't know why half the stuff Ecklers sends you has no instructions.

I recently ordered the black-out kit and received these replacement lenses that were way to large and looked like "bug eyes" on my Vette....looked like ****.

I sanded them down to size and now they look great being recessed like they should be. Someday I'll add new pictures.

I assume that you are talking about these center caps ?

If so, you can used a hammer handle to knock them out from the back side. Simply hold the head of your rubber hammer in your hand and use the wooden handle to punch the center cap out from the back of the wheel. Don't hit it too hard or ou will break the plastic cap. You can use your palm to hit the hammer head while the handle is firm against the back of the cap.

Oh I had no trouble removing the center cap....you see the checkered emblem on the front of that cap?.....that's what I was trying to remove and forgot it.....it won't come off without damaging the cap itself so the so called spinner's (once again they don't spin....don't know why Ecklers calls them spinners) are useless to me. Guess I'll return them and buy all new center caps at 29 bucks apiece.

I don't think the emblems on those caps are meant to come off. They are fused on or something. The aftermarket caps don't have the emblems I think because of copyright issues. To use GM's logo, you have to get their permission (that 'officially licensed by GM' logo thing you see on some aftermarket stuff with GM's logos on them) which I'm sure means giving GM lots and lots of $$'s.

You will have to find replacement used or NOS original GM center caps if you want the original emblem to be on there.
