Default Launch Question

Quick question. I was looking over an article that C&D did when the GS came out, and they made a comment on launch RPM's. They said that with the 315's, the car now needed to be launched at 4000 RPM vs. 2300. My question is...how the hell do you launch these things at 4K? I get wheelspin with light feathering at 2200! Do you have to feather it that much? And if you do, how can you do it w/o frying the clutch? :chevy

With my LT1, I could launch like hell with the 285's(Michelin) when I needed to or I could smoke them up.

Now I have 315's(Dunlop SP 8000) on and I can spin them a lot easier than the 285's. Must be the difference between Michelin and Dunlop.

BTW, have I ever mentioned that the Michelin Pilot XGT Z4 is the best damn tire on the planet? :D

I also read an article (or web page) awhile back about the GS.

The driver lowered the tire pressure in the rear (I think it was around 18-24 psi), rev'd it up to 5000 rpm and dropped the clutch. Did the quater-mile in 12.8, and the car was completely stock.

Don't remember all the specifics about it, but it was interesting.

Very interesting. I don't understand how you could dump at 5K without massive wheelspin. Can I be that unskilled?

If it was drag radials, I believe it, no way on street tires.
