My 96' convertable had the bosch radio stolen out of it. The sad part is, they cut the convertable top in two places!! One slash is in the shape of a "V" on the drivers side, the other is on the top-drivers side, about a foot long! Duct tape got the car through winter, now I have the added problem of removing the adheasive from the tape, as well as effecting a repair. are there options? or am I going to have to replace the top.
Will nail polish remover will take care of the adheasive? or will it attack the top instead!
'Goo Gone' or 'De-solv-it' should work to get the adhesive residue off. You should be able to find one or the other at Wal-Mart. But, I'm afraid the only real cure is a new top. I don't think I would try nail polish remover. Do you have 'Comprehensive Insurance' as part of your car policy? If so, your car insurance should cover it as well as the radio. Good luck.
Man that sucks. After what some here told me about the Bose, I'm surprised someone would steal it. But I guess criminals & drugies will steal anything.
I forgot to ask if the top was vinyl or cloth. If cloth, you're probably right to avoid the oil base products. Vinyl should be OK with the Goo Gone type products. If all else fails, read the label on the cleaners!
This is a prime example of why convertibles should not be locked. Tops get slashed and the doors can then be opened. There is no real way to repair the top. You will need a new one or just leave it down and only drive on nice days. I have done upholstery on cars for the last 25 years and have heard quite a few similar stories. Top slashed - new top needed.
Some low life slashed my son's pickup tonneau cover to steal a $5 foam ice chest. Tailgate wasn't locked and the tonneau was even a flip-up for easy access! I hate to park my vehicles out of my sight!
