Default audio question

Hello everyone! Ben Smith here, new guy to the forum, hope to be here for many years! I just bought a 1994 Coupe, White with Red interior the usual options, bose CD casette, power everything. To make a long story short, I am going to remove the Bose cd cassette unit and replace with an after market head unit (Double Din) and I need to check the dimensions of the old unit, against that of the New unit I am looking at. I have not removed mine to verify this, I am hoping one of the Forum members happens to have a Bose CD cassette head unit sitting on a shelf that can give me the measurements without having to remove mine, until I am actually going to swap them out.
Basically, I need L X W X H (Depth,Hieght, width) the unit I am buying is approximately 4" hieght, 5.8" depth, and 7" wide....need to find out if this puppy will fit my '94. Anybody happen to have one of these units handy for some quick measurments?
Thanks in advance!
Ben Smith

Can't offer the dimensions, but I did this replacement using a JVC double din. It fit nicely _behind_ the bezel so zero cutting or triming of the bezel to fit it. The JVC is nice because it offers 256 different lighting colors so I could match the factory orange of the rest of my dash lighting.

Looks like yours will fit. You'll likely need a mounting kit as well. Which double din unit and speakers are you looking at? I'm still pondering on whether to replace my delco cassette radio/speakers or just add a second amp and replace the speakers, too.

Thanks guys! The unit I am looking at installing is a kenwood DPX-990 MD (CD/MD player) same dimensions as the stock Bose unit. I plan to change speakers and all eventually
Thanks again!

You will need to change the speakers when you put in the new unit. You will also need to rewire the speaker wires.

I would suggest that you buy the bypass harness so you don't cut the factory wiring.

Mini Disc player??

Great advice for Sure. Yeah "Mini Disc" was a cd cartridge similar to digital audio tape late 80's early 90's tech this has an awesome display too. 50 watts x 4 channels, sub pre outs, spectrum analyzer, etc.
My only concern is the trim bezel on the vette's dash, will I have to trim or not...... Well gotta run have a good one!

I have a home unit Mini Disc/CD player/recorder(Sony) and a Sony Auto radio that plays mini disc and records.

I love the format , but it didn't seem to take on very well.

There is one for sale in the Parts section. Send the seller a Private Message and ask him to measure his stereo and send the dimensions to your inbox.

Welcome to our passion, and to the Forum.

Although the bypass harness does its job you might consider just getting an amp and speakers and re-wiring. I did the harness route and 3 months later ripped it all out and did the whole job right.
