with all due respect, I would rather have a nice C4 than a car that is not a C4 or C5, IMHO for C4 owner you are a C5 wannabe but cannot aford it, for C5 guys you are a dreamer who thinks that by changing the looks of your car you are one of them. You won't belong here or there. No one buys their final house the first time, you update in time, same with cars you got to start somewhere.
The C4 coupe, IMO, looks better than the C5 coupe does anyway.
There are a few on this board that are not purists, do not care what others think about their mods & enjoy changing things around to suit their (the owners) tastes.
Just for fun I would put it in black primer & make it a srealth street fighter. Don't race anybody you will get your butt kicked. 14 second 1/4 times = its not fast.
When your done having the time of your life with your new Vette & are ready to move on you will probably find a young fellow much like yourself looking for his first Vette.
Luck.

Thing is if hes in high school hes got a ton of will and energy to put into the car you know how it goes.
OP if you really want a C5 because of the car itself then keep saving.
If its just the look then get him WAY down in price he wants too damn much. Remember having "all the parts" doesnt mean much there will be hardware clips connectors etc that are missing and will take a bazillion trips online and to the stores to get its time consuming and nickel/diming.
Your call
It sounds to me like you already have your mind made up so no matter what we say you're not gonna listen so I can only give you one small bit of advice. When you get this,,,,,,,,,, abomination, don't send pics and ask us what we think. You don't want to hear our opinion, and whatever you do, don't ask anybody in the C5 section. Lastly you are getting this from one of the least purist Vette guys on this forum.
Okay guys, so my friend just got his dad's 00 Corvette, its a yellow convertible and I love it to death... Times are tight, and having the responsibility of purchasing my own car wont make it easy to get one.
I'm sure somebody MUST have seen or done one of these before
I'm looking into an 88 Corvette with a c5 body kit, any opinions? How close do they look.
I can't find any pictures.
Looks like a women thats had to much plastic surgery
This is a clear violation in the Corvette rules manual. A C4 is a C4, not a C5. Butcher some other car in this manner, but not a Corvette.
still just a chevy .... I say let the lad do as he pleases a owner is only happy when the car is the way he likes it. I see no problem with mod'ing a C4, different strokes man ....

Yeah.....I can see a bloodbath developing if you do that. You WILL get our honest opinion, and your feelings aren't likely to be spared.
If you still feel compelled to post pics, I would suggest doing so in our lauded "Off Topic" section. You will get a more lively response from them.

By all means. He just needs to be forewarned that modifications of this nature are a highly personal thing.....and not everyone will share his fervor regarding the outcome. But as long as he's happy, that's all that matters.
There is another problem not mentioned here yet (i don't think). OP you are in high school. The amount of money most of us need just to keep our nice C4's on the road is pretty substantial. I would definitely assume that the car you picked out is going to be a money pit from the looks of it. Your first thought should be whether or not you have the means to make this car right. This car looks like it had a tough life. Lets say you buy it and finish it, it now stands you $5000. What are you going to do if it then needs injectors, or tires, or it just starts running rough and you can't figure out why. On top of that insurance can be ridiculous on these cars. You not only have to figure out if you can afford the car, but whether or not you can afford to keep it on the road. One last thing, don't let other people decide for you what you should or should not drive around in. If you like the C5 body kit then get it. Just be smart about what you buy. Good luck with your purchase.
Sounds like you already have your mind made up. Take a deep breath and find a nice Vette for the price of purchase/painting this one. You'll be glad you did.
My first Vette was in High School. $3350 for a nice 69 back in 1978. You can get into a decent C4 driver for around $5k.
