Driving to work this morning my 92 C4 started making a chirping sound form the dashboard which literally sounded like birds chirping?
Could this be somthing to do with the speedometer as it only happens while moving and adjusting the climate controls and such made no difference? Thanks for any suggestions. I just acquired the car severla months ago and love it. 92 Convertible 6 speed.
My 91 does the same thing... it drives me crazy sometimes. i always thought it was either the dash itself or something behind it. I've had friends apply pressure to different spots on the dash while i drove it to see if we could silence it, but no dice. If you ever figure out where it's coming from, let me know! Good luck...
My parents used to fold up slips of paper and stick in cracks in the dashes when they squeaked or rattled. Inelegant but worked.
Or perhaps tweety took up residence.
Believe it or not, but your car has an audible alarm if you leave the blinker light on for too long. It takes a couple of minutes, but if your signal didn't switch off automatically, the alarm is there to make sure you don't look like a nerd driving your vette down the highway with a blinker flashing.
Maybe your chirp is something else, but this is one of the things to check for.
That's exactly the noise!!! I may have to try the folded paper trick just to see if it works!
Strangely enough it seems to have gone away? Went out to pick up lunch on this gorgeous day and the noise was not there. Maybe I did leave my turn signal on like a dope! My car is so loud I might not have noticed. Good luck with the paper!!!
Had a frequent chirp from the dash of my 94 vert, finally found it where the left end of the cowl was rubbing against the door. I put a self-stick piece of black velcro (the fuzzy half) on the door at the contact point, about 1" X 2". Stopped the chirp right away, and it's pretty much invisible against the black upholstery unless you look for it.
Check to see if it is from the Air Conditioner by turning it off and on. I assume that if it was pretty day that you put the top down and turned the AC off....

Thats right! I even fooled around with the climate controls and it made no difference. It reminded me of a problem with a speedometer gear I had in a 944 which would act up at times. Guess we'll see what happens.
I discovered in mine that it wasn't the dashboard but rather the hood catches had gotten loose and dry over time - a little tightening and grease and it went away. A quick check for looseness - just tug upward on the hood near the windshield to see if it has any give. It should be pretty solid.
It may or may not be the same thing as yours but I hoped that helped and good luck!
