Default Installing new valve covers and.......

I need to remove the tube that runs up and across the rear of the passenger side cover. It looks like a heat tube as it is wrapped with insulating material. The car is an '86 OEM motor. Any tips?
TIA

thats the egr pipe. Whatever you do, dont remove the otiker ring that holds the bottom of it. See if you could loosen the 2 bolts that attach it to the intake and then slightly bend the pipe out of the way to slide out the valve cover. That otiker ring is a pain to replace and properly cinch down.

Loosen and remove the 2 Torx screws that hold the EGR tube into place. Carefully lift the tube from the intake-mounting surface and rotate it slowly towards the firewall. With the EGR tube facing the firewall, you will be able to lift the valve cover up and off the cylinder head.

When you to re-install the EGR tube if you do not have a new gasket, you can use Red RTV Silicone. Thoroughly clean the mount area on the tube and intake. Spread a thin layer of RTV Red Silicone on the tubemounting surface and let it sit for about five minutes. Carefully align the EGR tube with the mounting surface and install the 2 Torx bolts. Tighten them into place. Re-connect the EGR temperature switch to the wiring harness.

If you have to replace the ERG pipe cinch clamp, you will need these special long handled dikes to crimp it in place.

its not the right way, but when I did mine, I cut it in the middle and when I put it back together , I sleeved it and sealed it with J.B Weld, wrapped it back up with the tape. this was after I broke one of the heads off one of the screws at the top and had no intension of breaking that clamp loose at the bottom

One more question if I may,
Regarding a new gasket, ado I need the EGR valve gasket or is there one just for the tube?

There is a specific gasket for the tube.

Yes, you will need a gasket for your new EGR valve. The new valve should be about $80 and come with a new gasket.

Just curious, but does the 86 use one of those temperature sensors in the EGR valve like the 85 does?

He won't need an EGR gasket unless he is removing the EGR valve.
