Default Temperature 95 corvette

Where should my temperature gauge be when running highway and
after long idle? When is it getting too hot, the manuel its hot in shaded area, thats about 260. It runs up when idling for a while but comes down when you get up to speed. Thanks

The analog gauge is not very accurate. What temps are you seeing on the digital readout? The cooling fans are activated at 228*/235*.

It is running about 210 and go up to 225or 230 when idling,
but then eill come back to 210 < mid gauge> after moving again.

When my car was stock it would run in the 190's on the highway and heat up when stopped. Your car is not too far off that. Might want to look to see if the radiator fins are clogged with debri. If not, you really have nothing to worry about. Stock, these cars run hot.

Sounds about right. Depends on the temperature of the ambient air, 190/215 depending. The oil temperature will also be in the same area.

Those temps are OK our cars are designed to run hotter than what many of us were brought up to feel is reasonable. On your 95 when your AC is turned on both fans will come on. So with the car idling open the hood and turn on the AC. If both fans are not running at high speed than one of the 3 fan relays located on the drivers side cover of the radiator shroud may need to be replaced.

210 might be a little high for cruising, check for debris in front of your radiator. The fan(s) are programmed to come on at 228, so 225 or 230 at idle is fine.

If everything checks out okay with the cooling system, and you'd like to lower the idling temps, you can have the PCM reprogrammed to kick the cooling fans on at lower temps. Just make sure you don't have them set so low that they'll run all the time. Keep the fan-off temps at least 20*F above the thermostat temp. My '94 runs nice and cool since changing the fan-on/fan-off settings.

Live well,

SJW

My 87 runs at around 197 - 200 or so in motion.

Around 225 to 230 in heavy traffic or at a stop light for long.

One of the worst things to do, make a temp gauge digital. Sheesh.

But still , I still love my Digital DAsh It is what makes my Vette a Vette !

Those are the temps that my 95 ran, I didn't like it to run that high so I bought a kit from Ecklers the fans now turn on at 195. Runs way cooler now.

225-230 Normal??? GEEZE!!! I guess I am old school. I just bought my 96 a couple of weeks ago and took my daughter for a spin while shopping for wifes new car stereo. She waited in the car with a/c on while I "shopped". I came back out and looked down 225F I thought OH CRAP!!! I'm about to warp a head!!! I knew from stuffing an 320hp / 350 in my Jeep caused temps to rise to 235-240 before I changed radiators and learned that I was on the verge of warping or cracking a head. So I thought when I saw 225 on my "new" vette with aluminum heads, I thought I'd ruin it. We took off down the road until it got below 190. She loved it though!! So I'm glad to see this post. I checked in hoping to find the info you all posted. Thanks, I can sleep better now. I was feeling real guilty...
