Default Help! How do I fix this?

88

Teardown for paint prep and discovered this severe corrosion.

This is right behind the front of the hood, goes all the way across and is the bracket that two of the headlight assemblies screw into.

Any advice on how to repair is appreciated.

Does anyone sell just this piece so I can remove and replace?

It would be easiest to just replace the hood. Do you have any other corrosion on the car? Max's Vette stuff, 480-964-0779 would have it out of Arizona.

Not this level of corrosion that I can see.

Thanks for replies.

Front bumper off and all the remaining metal looks very good. Surface corrosion on hood hinges, but very minor.

Huh? Isn't this an issue with the headlight bracket assembly NOT the hood?

that piece doesnt do much except stabilize the bottom of the headlight "U" bracket , you could repair/remake it withoput alot of trouble and it would work/look as new.

I fixed mine (on an 84) with some square tubing and epoxy.

Take one off, and bond it back on and get back to me.

Alrighty then!

I thought I'd had mine loose (or partially loose). Guess I remember wrong.

The piece is actually the hood support. The part of it pictured really does nothing but support the corners of the hood, and is welded to the hood support. 94-96 vettes don't even bolt the headlights to those two plastic nuts on that piece.

No record of being a flood car.

I can see how that might come up with this piece and fiits with my front harness but there aren't any other indicators. Hood hinges in really good shape, bumper support has no detectable corrosion, etc.

Anyone know who manufactures (not just sells) new hoods to see if I can buy a new piece from them?

I found an old inexpensive hood where this part wasn't visibly corroded and am going to try remove and replace. Tracking down the rivets.

If that doesn't work I'll attempt Bubba fold up.

Thanks all for the help,
