Default Gauges

A little help from the more experienced forum members please! My 95 had some heating/cooling issues in January. GM dealer replaced fan relays and finally the on board computer module. It ran fine but we have had some really hot weather and I notice the temperature gauge will climb close to the 260 mark at idle and run about 235 on the open road. The numeric gauge however runs consistently at 193-197 and varies little while the temperature gauge fluctuates 10-20 degrees. Is it safe to believe the numeric gauge? Have others seen this difference? Is this a sign of other problems? The local shop is very customer friendly but I believe short on Vette repair personnel.

From your description, it's normal operation.
Yes, trust the digital gauge.

The analog gauge is not linear in scale. Look real close at it again, and the needle should stop just before it gets to the shaded area on the gauge.
FYI: 260 on that gauge is if the needle is pegged all the way to the stop.

Your digital gauge should read in the 195-200 range while moving at any speed above 35mph.
At a stop light or idling for any length of time, the digital gauge will be in the 228-235 range.
The electric cooling fans don't come on until approx. 228

Thanks a lot. I was leaning towards trusting the numerics, you clinched it for me.
