my little corvette has an old 350 goodwrench crate in it, i felt this kinda kills the value of it. does anyone know for sure if the crate is a no-no? there isnt much im going to do about it, but i am just curious.
always best to ask someone who knows more about it than myself.
What do you want a Corvette for? If you're looking for a restored or 100% original show car with everything as it left the factory, you're right. If you want something to drive and enjoy, the only question about that motor is "Does it run?".
itll run as long as the tractor or truck that is pulling it is running... haha, its my project car. i would like for it to be worth a small chunk of change in the future.
I agree. I found a 383 in a wrecking yard and cleaned it up and stuck it in my 86. It is probably a truck block since it is 4 bolt main, but with corvette heads and rocker covers, it is Gen-yoo-wine corvette!
You won't hurt the value & it will be much more fun to drive. Win win.
This is strictly my opinion & i repainted mine a non-stock color, so take
it for what its worth. Above all, have fun.
Kill the value of what?
Its not a collector car.
Better to have a GM crate than some unknown rebuilt job.
84 is a landmark, thats when the C4 started right? one day it will be collectable like all corvettes. im looking ahead ya know, i am not going to be able to afford another corvette any day soon.
You probably won't live long enough to see it be worth any more than it is right now......
They made a ton of 84's. Some would say that there is a rule of "4's". 54, 64, 74, 84. All of these yrs seem to be at the bottom end in some people's minds. The 54 is now over 50 yrs old and is finally having it's day. How old will you be when your 84 turns fifty?
It has to be rare or special to be valuable. Supply/ Demand. That is how we operate.
Sorry pal you have the typical run of the mill corvette, but with a stigma attached to it.
1975 and 1986 were both landmark years also but they are also not worth any more because of it.
The average Joe won't know or care what block is in your 1984 corvette.
Big blocks, split windows, Zr1, GS, original with almost no miles, those are always worth a chunk of change in the future.
Enjoy it as is, and if you are looking for return investment you picked the wrong car for the project.
Cutting to the chase: you were correct when you said "a small chunk of change". If you are looking for a car to appreciate in value the C4 is not it. Look elsewhere. If you are looking for a fun car to drive, you got it.
Don't delude yourself. A C4 (or pretty much any car for that matter) should not be part of your investment plan. Just tinker on it, drive it and enjoy it.

Thats the misconception...all Vettes are collectible
They are not.
Maybe one day yours will be probably many many yrs down the road..IF.
Do what makes you happy with it now and let the next guy worry about it being "perfect".
