Default Shifter boot

Just had the trans replaced on the 95. Now the shifter boot is not connected to the center console piece. It looks like 4 small screws hold it to the trim piece. How do I get the console piece up to screw the boot screws back in? Thanks

Not sure if you can possibly get to this from underneath like the tranny folks may have done and it may be a little different on yours compared to my 88. On mine you need to take the center dash panel out to get the transmission console loose. However, to get the center dash panel, you need to get the left and right dash panels. Also, in my case, you have to take the radio out but it is an aftermarket one. This sequence is required because the intent was apparently to keep almost screws hidden in the interior to make it look better. Obviously, this makes it a LOT more difficult to work on lots of electrical or other issues on an older car. Good luck!

Also, when you are putting it back together, be sure to notice where the shift lever is. There is a little piece to the left of the lever that catches in the part that shows which gear you are in. Not hard to put in place, but if you forget to do so and put the console, etc. back together, you will have to take it all apart again to put it together right. Been there, done that!

Don't forget to remember to hook the light up under the indicator plate. Or to get that last nut out in the cupholder. Did that EVERY time.

As stated repeatedly above you need to remove the shifter plate. The leather outer boot is retained with four screws that fasten into 4 small metal fastners that are factory slip fit over and grip the top of four raised screw channels under the shift plate.

Three bolts hold in the top shift plate. Two in the front of the console under the console front carpet tags. One underneath the ash tray. Unplug the cigarette lighter. Depending on auto or manual you will need to look out for the shift dial indicator and the light.
