I recently took my Vette to a dealership to have the Opti-spark replaced due to the engine stalling on me. So the Tech's there diagnosed that indeed the Opti had failed and shattered in pieces internally, after checking to make sure no other issues were there they replaced my opti with a new one and she started right up but her idle was fluxing between 1500-2000 rpm. The tech told me he suspected a vacuum leak so off he went to troubleshoot. He then comes back later and tells me my IAC Valve may be failing but then upon closer inspection he finds the "O" ring missing from the valve. Now i'm in the military and due to transfer in less than 2 weeks from Hawaii to illinois, so then i get a call from the delaership telling me that the IAC Valve works as normal "Manually" but not with the PCM. He got the car to idle normally but she sounds as if she is misfiring but no codes are present, so with me on my time crunch i decided to take the car as is because i needed to ship in a few days but on the way home she just died after 25 minutes of driving at 35mph (street driving). Now she wont crank and all i get is my digital dash blinking...did something else happen...PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP !!....At this point i'm considering taking this car to the junk yard because i dont think i can ship her in this condition.

Is there someone close by that specializes in corvettes? I'd be a little suspicious with this "tech." With the car acting like this it's got to be throwing codes.
Honestly i dont know of any place out here in Hawaii that specializes in Corvette's and at this point i dont know if i have any options left but to Junk the car. I have have a week and a half left before flying off the Island.
Why would you junk the car? Plenty of Chevrolet dealers and independent shops in IL, especially if you will be in the Chicago area or the St. Louis area suburbs (that are on the IL side of the Mississippi river) near Scott AFB.
- If an opti "shattered to pieces", the engine doesn't stall....it flat out won't run.
- With a high idle, often times the MAP sensor is bad, but this should set a code
- A no-start condition points back to the Opti and a poor install, assuming fuel is ok. I would make sure the wiring harness that goes to the opti is clean and fully seated (both ends of the harness). I wouldn't be surprised if the ace mechanic broke the connector such that it will no longer lock in place.

I'll give you junk price and pay to have it shipped to my address.

96GS:
- I understand that i dont have to Junk the car but at this point if i cant get the car running to where i can ship it then i have no choice. I'm trying a last ditch effort to see what is causing this problem but my cut off is next Tuesday.
96 Vette CE:
- I would sell it to you if there was a company who would ship the car as is but i've called every shipping company here in Hawaii and they wont take the car without it running. Unless you know somebody i dont that will ship the car in it's current condition??
I had a similiar situation when I left Hawaii. Finally gave a good friend a limited power of attorney and some $$. When he finally got his hands on the car (long story involving an exwife) he shipped it for me.
Spend a day or so locating a decent repair shop and get the car in there and have your friend ship it for you. Dont know what your car is worth or how attached to it you are vs a repair bill. Just another option....
It doesn't take a 'Corvette Specialist' to repair your car. I'm including a link to Yelp-Honolulu-Auto Repairs in this thread. Start making some calls. It's a Chevy small block for chrissakes! It may not have the room of a pickup truck in the engine bay, but it's the same motor! Tell the mechanic just that. "Corvette with Chevy Small Block that is not running right". I found Yelp to be very helpful in picking services and that included an inspection for a C3 in Frisco I almost brought, but didn't and an Animal Surgical Ophtamologist for my dog (yeah, he charged me $2k to remove a malignant Sarcoma, but what a great doctor!). Good luck in your search!
Thank you all for the replies and insight...as of now i have called the dealership that did the previous repair and also have taken the car to an Auto shop my firend recommended and we shall see...if this doesnt work then i may have no choice but to Junk or Scrap the car because i cant ship it this way...and it really sucks too because my Brother-in-law has a friend in Illinois who really knows Corvette's but no shipping company in Hawaii will take it. We shall see......
