2010 Camaro SS vs. 96 LT1/LT4
This may be a repost or a , but i wil drop the question anyway. The new 2010 Camaro SS i believe has the LS3 engine. A 96 vette, we all know has the LT1 or LT4. Which car will get better 1/4 mile times? I think the SS would fall behind on a road course with all that weight.

Depending on driver it could make it closer but the ss should pull ahead. It's trap speed Is easily a few mph higher than a stock lt4s. My 02 ss with just headers makes quick work of my buds 96 lt4 with a b&b exhaust and k&n.

Yeah, but I pulled a 12.9 (bone stock) with my LT4 way back when shortly after I got mine. Maybe she's lost some ponies since then, but it comes down to the driver...a redheaded step child she is not.

I hate to say it, BUT,,,,,,
Last year I drove a bright red, 2010 SS Chevy Camaro, from Avis Rentals. Granted, it was a "rental car" and was NOT a V-6 but a V-8. If this is what Chevy is putting all their hopes into, they are s__t out of luck. It was a total DOG.
A few months later, I tried another 2010 SS Camaro. (This one was silver). Same, It's a DOG.
Now remember these were "rental cars". Maybe they put a governor's on them or something, but even with traction control shut off and in water, just a little spin of a tire, is all I could get.
What a let down!

The SS is going to kill the LT4.
Yeah they weigh more but handle pretty darn good. Technology marches on.
Show me a stock LT4 that has EVER ran a 12 anything wont happen.
Seems the older cars get the faster they were?? ugh

I have only run my LT4 in the 8th thus far, but I can tell you it was good bit quicker than this car's time slip.

If you are going to internet race... at least use similar sources. (all Motor Trend numbers)
1995 LT1 (auto with 3.07) - 13.7 @ 103
1996 LT4 (was a Grand Sport) - 13.3 @ 104.0
2010 Camaro SS (manual trans) - 13.0 @ 111.0
The only way to know is to line them up and race. However the trap speeds show pretty clearly that if the Camaro hooks up it is adios C4.

Alright ...
My good friend and coworker owns a nice bright orange Camaro SS / Auto. On stock tires in good fall air at Firebird Raceway he will run strings of 13.50's 13.60's all night long spinning abit out of the hole. Granted hes trapping around 106-107 mph meaning there is a good bit more in there.
My slightly tweaked LT1 auto stays ahead of him running rock solids 13.30s.
400hp is cool and all but that car is a lead sled.
Anybody that doubts please let me know I will post links to his vids, time slips or whatever. There is usually a huge difference between what the rags say a car will run and what Joeblow will actually run at the track.

Haha just looked at the time slip information posted above and yup thats pretty much on par with the auto tranny camaros as well.

I'm sure we've all seen this 100 times before.

I would think they should be a bit quicker than that in the 8th. For instance: I've had an automatic G8 GT that ran 9.0 over and over. It's only 365 HP. I had an automatic GTO 6.0 that ran 8.8's and 8.9's consistently. My LT4 has only been to the track once, and it had a best run of 8.78 at around 84 mph. So either that Camaro is getting some serious wheelspin, or something is out of whack.
btw, I'm in Texas and I don't go out when it's cold. So these were on pretty warm evenings.

We usually get no better than a 2000' DA when were at the track so if your air is better or your track is below that elevation you would see some differences there as well.

What many fail to mention are altitude and weather. I was at 500ft and the temp was 54* with very dry/dense air.
During a trip to Denver, CO in 1998, I consistently ran low 14s....at 5200 ft, and 70* temps.
