You got me there. There are absolutely no mods that could ever make a L98 as fast as those ever. I'm sure a few of the "Slow" L98's on here could attest to their misery.

LOL , lets make it clear my friend.

I didn't say l98s interiors are ugly, I like them. But I prefer the late years. And of course any car can be faster than a new z06. it just needs some cash !!

we still don't know what's on the OPs mind when he buys a corvette , he might change his opinion and go to another forum.

l98s are cheaper than lt1s , mods on both aren't equal. if you put cam/heads on both, they wont have the same RWHP. so what you saved after buying a l98, you will pay it later for mods.

[QUOTE=Frizlefrak;1577882536]What do you plan on using the car for? Daily driver? Track warrior? Road Trip car? Combo of all of the above?

Both are great engines and are bulletproof if cared for. The cars got more refined over the years....I love the early C4's as they have a "muscle car" feel to them, whereas the later cars are more easy to live with on a daily basis.

Both have ample power for what most of us do right out of the box. Both get good mileage. Both are reliable if cared for. The '94 up have vented optispark which is less prone to moisture induced failure.

My advice? Buy the NICEST C4 that you can afford.....ie....the best cared for car. It is much cheaper to buy a nice one than to rehab a ratty one. Take your time, drive as many of them as you can, do your research, and pick the one that's been pampered.

Depends on what you want to do with the car. Just drive it and enjoy it, either is fine. If you want to race it neither will be enough.

performance wise they're tit for tat on the seat of pants. 5.6 0-60 compared to 5.2 0-60. stop light to stop light=nada, track=a lifetime.

IMO the best looking interior is on the 90 to 93. (I believe the 93 has the same interior as the 90) It looks and feels more corvettey to me.

On the L98 ask when and if the injectors have been changed and if the intake gasket has been changed. Those seem to be the two biggest pain in the butt items that always fail. The fuel pump and the FPR are also gremlins on some of them.

On the LT1 ask when and if the opti has been changed. If it's a vented opti you're set. Also ask about the intake gasket on it.

Hey guys thanks for all the replies. I've always wanted to own a Corvette and now that I am retired I think it's time to get one. It won't be a daily driver or it won't be raced, basically it will be a car that I drive when it's nice out to take little trips in. I'm not much of a mechanic and I'm trying to decide on the best Vette for me. I would like to keep it around 11,000 dollars or less. I have to admit it's fun looking at all the Vettes for sale but hard to choose one. Thanks for all your help.

For that money, try a few 96's.

Looking is the best part, but can be frustrating as well. Try to buy one from a private owner if possible. Talk to him/her and see how they talk about the car. You'll be able to tell if it's a good car by how they talk about it. If they've cared for/loved the car and serviced it well you'll see it. I personally like to hear them talk about possible issues. If someone tells you there are none, be skpetical. There's always something that could be upgraded or corrected on a used car, generally speaking of course. I have seen some that have zero issues or concerns.

Always go with you gut instincts and don't get all goo goo eyed over the first one that you look at. There are always other cars to compare it to.

I went to a C5 but I really miss my 90. They're a blast to drive.

The '94 + PCM is a much more durable ( and readily available ) unit
I know no one that has had this problem, as far as the interior the 92-93 feels more like a cockpit which I love.

They feel about the same at launch. But the LT1 will pull longer and harder in the higher RPM range. I think both engines are pretty reliable.

I can buy a pre 92 for a lot less money, just wondering if I should go for the LT1. I'm sure it's personal preference but if anyone has any thoughts on this I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Pretty tough question to ask since you tossed in the price factor...

I currently own 64 72 76 79 88 (anc) and 98 Corvettes I sold my black on black 6 sp 95 Lt1 to buy my 98 when I retired....so I can compare that Lt1 95 with my 88 L98...

Torque makes the L98 feel much stronger at the stoplight...but the l98 runs out of air by the time you cross the intersection... for normal driving especially in traffic the l98 feels stronger ... BUT the lt1 just pulls and pulls thru the gears all the way up to red line and is actually much faster...

Interior... Your choice... but the 95 interior I absolutely loved especially the dash and the way it wrapped around you... The 88 does not offer as much of a "fighter pilot feeling" and I'm still not used to the digital instrumentation on the 88... but I am not complaining about the "feel" I personally get when driving the 88.

Personally I like the rounded front and rear ends of the later C4's better then I do the angular sharp and k flat looks of three earlier models...

That leads me to say get a later model 92 or above and do not wash the engine (opti spark can be a problem if you get it wet...the 94 and later models had much less problems then the 92 and 93 had...

That said especially if money is a concern I honestly enjoy my 88 MORE then I did my 95...BUT ONLY BECAUSE it is not black on black and a royal pain to keep clean.. Id much rather keep my white on white 88 clean ( not a problem at all) then wash my black 95 and sit down with a cold beer and watch it get dirty sitting in the driveway...

Bob G.
64 72 ans 98 Verts
76 79 and 88 (anc) Coupes...

BTW..as an after thought I like how I feel sitting in my 88 MORE then I do the feel of my 98 ..and like I said the 95 felt even better then the 88...

In that case.....find the best cared for car of either ilk and spend the money up front. Cruising is always more fun than wrenching or paying the mechanic to wrench.
