This is not good. I've been thinking about putting my 85 up for sale.
Probably want to hold off... Your profile says you are in CA, which as you know seems to be the leader in low price C4s... Better to hold on to your vette if at all possible... JMO
There are tons and tons of C4s out here and noone wants them so they go for super cheap. Good if youre looking to buy!
Granted a lot of cheapies are hammered and clapped out but was surprised at the amount of very clean ones that werent bringing anything especially the LT1s which was surprising.
Agreed and noticing the same thing, late C4's that look decent, with about 100k can be had for under $7k. The C5's are dropping hard too. A decent early C5 can be had for less than 13k these days!
i am pretty sure they will drop to $5k and start to make a comback.
its unfair to compare a vette to a civic. no one will buy an old civic to restore it. the vette will always be worth somthing. no matter the condition.
Prices out here really shot up in May, especially on the C5's and early C6's. I Don't think they are selling at the new prices from what I'm seeing. I have seen a bunch of the cheap cars that were on for months selling though. A lot of re-seller action, and quite of few of them are getting stuck with them. It's really hard to say from just looking on Craigs list. There is a 93 Rubie here in Phoenix that is grossly overpriced at $4000 if you look at the car. Here in Phoenix and from what I've seen in my trips to LA, the selling seems to have pretty much stopped the last couple of weeks (pretty normal for this time of year out here). I've found quite a few nice driver 94-96's (flawed, but not trashed) in the $4k-$5k range over there though, and an occasional deal on the earlier ones. JMO

Civic = econo junk (but it will make life on your wallet a whole lot easier, but who needs money, if you're bored to tears driving it?)
Vette = Icon (that I happily, or maybe sometimes happily throw money at, but gawd, do I love driving it!!!).
PS: I stopped by my favorite auto parts store this morning, with a box of donuts to grease the 'goodwill' factor, because they sure do take care of me!

Yeah I didn't mean that as a shot to the civic but rather as you stated “bored to tears”... I just feel cars like that are soulless...
J-Vette, those are killer deals! I like the 1978! I've looked at late C3's and 78' was a good year. I think 79' or 80' went to a computer control on the carb (or was it 81?). They can be 'interesting' to inspect!
The 1998 makes me wonder if the clutch went out, because it was abused, or if it was because somebody didn't know how to drive a stick. Still, you can't kill the LS motors and it looks bitchin'! And it's a 'Vert to boot!
Between Craigslist, movies like the fast and the furious it a wonder there is any market for C4s. The kiddies would rather pour five grand for a beat Honda with with a carbon fiber hood a big muffler than own a world class sports car. Thats what the C4 was in its day.

Yeah I would prefer a chrome bumper C3 but a C3 (any year) for $3k aint all bad (as long as it isn't a basket case)
On the 1998, yeah I would want to know what the replacement interval even is on the clutch with the car having 54k miles. May have just been due... Who knows. If I had the cash I would be checking that one out.
Have one of each. The KBB Private Party value on my 2009 Civic w/ 24K miles is just $400 less than what I paid for it new over 2 years ago. Now THAT'S resale value. Also, get 40 mpg on hwy. They're great cars, but of course the 0-60 is "somewhat" challenged.
